Communication & Language development

We believe that to truly grasp a language it is important to have daily reinforcement at differentiated levels. Daily language lessons begin at the Nursery level by learning songs and playing games to help familiarize these young students with a new language and its sounds. As students grow, the program becomes more intensive allowing each student to be challenged at an appropriate level so they can continue to progress. All aspects of a language are taught including reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Communication development through Jolly Phonics Lab & Grolier Lab

Jolly Phonics Lab

Jolly Phonics is a multi-sensory program based on the teaching of letter sounds (phonics). This multi-sensory approach also means that your child is seeing, hearing, feeling and doing which enables him to explore and learn in a fun and enjoyable way.  Jolly Phonics is a child centered approach to teaching literacy through synthetic phonics. This multi-sensory method is very motivating for children and teachers can see their students achieve great results and learn 42 sounds of different letters in a very artistic way. The letter sounds are split into seven groups as shown below.

These sounds are taught in a specific order (not alphabetically) which enables children to begin building words as early as possible. Children are taught the 42 main letter sounds. This includes alphabet sounds as well as digraphs such as sh, th, ai and ue. Using different multi-sensory methods, children learn how to form and write the letters and blend the sounds together to read and write new words. Listening for the sounds in words gives children the best start for improving spelling too.

We have Jolly Phonics Lab Kits in each class where teachers focus on making students learn letter sound as well as how to write the letters correctly and how to use them in words. Each letter has an action to go with it, which will help your child to make associations. Especially kindergarten students are taught to hear and identify each letter as the beginning, middle or end sound.

Grolier Lab

“A child’s mind is not a bucket to fill, but a fire to ignite”

We at MIS always focus on enriching the child’s learning experience through various processes. As a part of our ever growing learning support programs, we are happy in adding up GROLIER PRODUCTS to our library.

Grolier is an educational publishing company known for its presence in school libraries. In June 2000 Grolier became part of SCHOLASTIC CORPORATION. It has a strong presence among parents and children and aims to enhance a child’s creative skills such as hand-eye coordination, social communication and problem-solving.

At MIS, the teachers had hands-on training in an array of Grolier products ranging from Logico to Talking English. Experts from Grolier visited our campus to perk our teachers with interesting and enthusiastic tips to create an ecstatic learning experience for our children.

Now, we have an array of products from Grolier stocked in our library. To list a few, There are Logico series that comes in three levels – Primo (2-5 years old), Piccolo and Maximo (5-9 years).  The puzzle comes with a board and several card series.  The board is tailored for each age group. The movements help to develop hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. Talking English is an English learning program featuring a Reading Pen that promotes comprehension and improves speaking fluency.

The products are not only educative but are also interesting to support the enigmatic young minds. Grolier products are undoubtedly a valuable addition to our ever- extending MIS library
